Festival of Words

Our
Story
This partnership began in January 2021 when a flyer was circulating online offering writing workshops in schools. Festival of Words, an organization based in Moose Jaw, Sk. was offering workshops presented by authors, spoken word poets, poets and songwriters to Northern schools.
Looking to expand to communities in the North, the first project saw the collaboration between Rhoda Hardlotte Memorial Keethanow School in Stanley Mission and the Churchill Community High School in La Ronge. Indigenous musician and spoken word poet Zoey Roy met online with both schools to write the song, and the further funding was provided to record the song and make a music video in the spring.
This project was so successful that another collaborative songwriting, recording and music video project was fully funded in May 2021 with Elementary Schools in both communities, this time with the Indigenous songwriter LJ Tyson.
Festival of Words is partnering with CAMP for another round of projects in 2022. This includes working in the communities of Canoe Lake & La Loche to complete a literary, musical and visual project in February and May 2022 with Kyle Charles (Marvel Comic Book) and Kevin Wesaquate (Spoken Word Poet and Visual Artist) CAMP is very appreciative of this partnership, as it is connecting remote communities with the rest of Saskatchewan through music videos and collaborations.
